Images...Explained

These images that I will be analysing are to do with perspective, feeling, emotion and the 'message' that is supposed to be coveyed. I will talk about why the media manipulates images intentionally to create a 'feel' to the image, as we do learn that the media is very controlling and biased.

These images are contrasted to show different lifestyles around the world.

Times Square, New York and Las Vegas

These pictures are professionally taken from New York and Las Vegas in a famous place called Time Square (for New York). We need to understand some basic background information about the place or society, however not this time.. Pictures in today's day and age can instantly give away stereotypes of places and people etc.

Colours

The colours used in this photograph are wild, vivid and extravagant mainly to show the range of colours used in Times Square and Las Vegas and to show how it feels around so much colour. These bright colours can connote many different things to the human mind or the person who takes the first glance. To me and many other people, these colours can connote :

* Expense
* Happy
* Attractive
* Eye Catching
* Interesting
* Changing

So already the media has shown the picture in such a way that we feel that Times Square and Las Vegas is a financially rich place, happy place, attractive place, great to look at, interesting. However, this may not be the case but the media wants us believe them.

Lighting and Focus

Lighting and focus can add meaning and perspective to an image and as well as importance. In this picture the lighting is unique because all the lighting is supplied by the surrounding and the photographer has not to make any changes, to show the light show in Times Square and Las Vegas.

The focus is one of the major key points in this photographs because there are people standing in the middle of the place and watching the world go 'by'. So therefore, all of the focus will be on the herd of people in the middle showing how fast time can fly by around them.

The blurred taxis and cars and other surrounding people are simply done to show how fast paced Times Square and Las Vegas are. This effect is done in many famous photographs just to show speed.

Meaning

Overall, this picture shows that this place it has taken a photograph of is a happy and cheerful place with a lot of lighting surrounding it and it's fast paced. The viewer only thinks this because the media has subliminally coveyed this through technology, colour, feel and emotion.

 India

These pictures is professionally taken from a place in India. This picture is showing a particular feeling and is depicting it through emotion.

Colours

The colours used here are monotonous, they are used in grayscale. Normally grayscale connotes depressing subjects and dull images. So, therefore the media has purposely used poor people as a subject (normally not happy people) and used them with a comparative grayscale to help show what a poor condition it is.  So at a first glance you will notice that it's:

* Gloomy
*dull
*miserable
*helpless

So the media is subliminally showing us that this picture is a sad image.

Lighting and Focus

This picture has no sufficient supply of lighting. This is done purposely, purely to show that this picture should not have anything happy to do with light and therefore showing us the 'dark' side of the pictures.

The focus is a key point for these pictures as it mainly focuses on the subject of people. They are showing the critical conditions that these people are living in, they are conveying the message of the people. They are showing what the subjects are and how they feel about it. With this element you automatically think that you feel 'sorry' for them.

Meaning

The meaning of these pictures are very powerful, they have connoted so much through the human mind simply by glancing at it for only a millisecond. This is purely the job of the media, the photographer they have altered the unbiased viewpoint to be a biased one.

So altogether this picture is a picture of sadness.
