The Skeleton Key and The Ward

The Film Synopsis : The Student

A teacher, Rose Whitmore,  who specialises in educating students with learning disabilities has found a new job in Brentford Educational Centre. She is hesitant about taking the job as she finds the new headteacher, Lydia Pope, hostile. However, with prompting from the deputy head, Laura Marshall, she takes the job.

She is told about a certain student, Indiana, who finds learning extremely difficult. She finds suspicious behavior with this student and later on discovers a room full of dolls, mirrors and other hoodoo items, with a key Lydia had given her (in school). She asks Lydia about this room and Lydia says that this room is part of the school's teaching history- as a past headteacher used to be a witch. Rose is skeptical.

Gradually, throughout the story- Rose discovers Indiana believes in the hoodoo magic. In order to help her Rose uses the idea of hoodoo magic to cure Indiana of her learning difficulties. It returns some of Indiana's ability to communicate and Indiana tells Rose to escape quick with her.

Rose informs Laura of her findings, but Laura dismisses it calling her ideas absurd. Still scared of the harm Laura and Lydia can do to Indiana- Rose decides to hide her. This turns out to be a fail and Rose discovers that Lydia and Laura are indeed, in league. They were the ancient hoodoo practicing teachers, who, in order to live eternally take the lives of students and teachers...Rose is unfortunately taken by Laura.
